Used MacBooks on eBay

Another source of used MacBooks is on eBay. While most of these won't be refurbished MacBooks, they will mostly be of good quality. Because these MacBooks come from individuals instead of dealers, you will usually be able to find a better deal.

However, that said, shopping on eBay does come with its own pitfalls. Try buying from reputable users; once the product arrives at your door step, remember to test all its features to ensure that they work. Because buying through eBay is considered a private sale, do not expect any type of warranty. If the seller is generous, he/she might offer a guarantee, but these are usually hard to come by. So long as the description doesn't sound fishy, and the pictures of the MacBook look normal, you shouldn be fine.

Try to buy the used MacBook with at least some software on it. You might be able to save yourself a ton on popular software like Office:Mac and VMWare Fusion (used for running Microsoft Windows on a Mac). Accessories like an extra battery, MacBook sleeves, or an Apple display adapter is also nice.

eBay is also another place where you can find new MacBooks. These are usually dealers hoping to move more of their products by undercutting the big boys. The savings usually aren't significant, so it is still advisable to buy it from a reputable chain like the flagship Apple stores or even MacMall.
